Welcome To Positively Guitar
The Happiest Way To Learn Guitar!
"Music is a thing that changes people's lives. It has the capacity to make people's lives better." - Noel Gallagher, Oasis
"I think [playing guitar] adds depth to your being... Everybody should try to find something in their life that can do that for them. People find really elaborate ways of killing time on this planet. That's why they take drugs or drink, trying to alter their state of being. If you can find something that doesn't destroy you, but deepens your character, you're really lucky." - John Rzeznik, Goo Goo Dolls
Positively Guitar students learn way more than just "how to play guitar"
Because knowledge is only half the battle, Positively Guitar students also get training and guidance for all kinds of real-world musical situations:
-
Choosing gear that fulfills your needs for right now so that you don't waste your money or develop G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)
-
Playing well with others so you can join a band or start your very own
-
Developing a strong sense of your musical self so that you've got the skills and confidence you need to achieve your goals
Your Guitar Teacher
Guy With a Guitar Who Teaches You Things
Jony McCammon
Since 2009, I've taught hundreds of people just like you to become better guitar players, performers, band members, songwriters, and recording artists. I've played guitar, bass, drums, and sung with my students for countless live events over the years, as well as helped several beginning bands get their music careers started by helping them book their own gigs and play their own shows. With my production skills and songwriting training, I've also released two albums of my students' compositions – for many of them, their first time recording and releasing their own original music.
Frequently Asked Questions
(And Questions You Should Be Asking!)
-
Are you a psychiatrist or therapist?
Although I've had many students tell me that their guitar lessons have felt therapeutic, I don't pretend to be a mental health professional (and I don't even play one on TV!)
Inside the Positively Guitar program, you will find a wealth of information on musician mental health, as well as actionable items and habits that you can learn to do every day with the goal of helping you be the best version of your musical self that you can be.

What's so special about your way of teaching?
Nothing "special", really. Every guitar teacher on the planet can show you how to play notes and chords. And yes, I do try to teach you all the "Guitar Stuff" in the easiest and most fun way possible. My goal is to get you playing and having fun in as little time as it has to take. And if you decide you want to dive deeper - and become a true musician - then I've already set you down that path without you even knowing it! :D
Any truly great teacher will bring their own real-life experience to their teaching, and this is what makes each teacher unique. Over the years, I have learned a lot of things about guitar, music, and life the HARD WAY. My hope for every one of my students is that you can learn from my successes - and more importantly, my MISTAKES - so that you can have a smooth path to your musical future.

Do I already need to have some guitar skills to get the most out of Positively Guitar?
Not at all! In fact, I wish my 13 year old self could've had this site as a resource when I first started learning. So many things were unnecessarily difficult and confusing in the beginning for me. I explain every concept as if you're hearing it for the first time. So even if you've been playing awhile, there will be some aspects of guitar playing that you probably missed the first time you learned - and I will teach it to you so that you won't forget it!
